Warm-season grasses found in the South, such as St. Augustine, zoysia, and Bermuda, do best with fertilization once in March or April and again in September. We have one particular area of our lawn, about 1/4 acre out of the 2 & 1/2 acres, that just seems prone to having crabgrass grow and we wanted to put an end to it. It has been raining a lot in my area so once the spring showers have moved on I will be reapplying and I’m pretty sure my weed problem will be fixed.

It's important to wait until at least May to begin adding fertilizer since your grass needs to put all of its energy on root development in early spring. Phosphorus transfers energy throughout the plant, making it especially important in new grass. As the name suggests, dense-shade grasses are best for areas that don’t receive much sunlight. For example, if you have areas under trees or near a building where the grass doesn’t seem to grow, a dense-shade grass seed might be what you need.
